Meta Tags

There are two important Meta tags that you must use namely Description and Keywords.
Description:
This should give a brief summary of your website. Infact, it’s important to create a paragraph of about 20 - 30 words, that sums up your Website’s content.
Ever heard of the 7-second statement that defines your identity/service? Or your UVP [Unique Selling Proposition]... Now you're close. The advantage is that you can use this summary over and over in other areas for example in directory submissions, profiles or your rss feeds. This will save you a lot of time because all you need to do is to retrieve your summary from some place you’ve used before.
Keywords:
Depending on the industry you’re in, you can develop a list of words that would constitute possible searches; and then making sure they appear not only in your content but also in the keywords Meta tag- as well as in your description. You will need to do some research to find out what people are looking for. Google’s Webmaster Central provides a tool for analyzing what people are searching when your sites appears in a search, then you can capitalize on those in your keywords Meta.
Again you need to watch bloating your keywords tag with a long list of values. This can work against you. You need to keep it modest.
The html for Meta is as follows:

It has to be within the Head tag.
